The child undergoes simple tests to advanced tests if necessary depending on the condition of the eye which demands. These test can take from few minutes to few hours if necessary. These methods are highlighted below

Both near and far visions are tested with letters, if the child does not read this is done with help of shapes and pictures.
The depth of vision perception of the child is assessed.
The alignment of the eyes with respect to each other and how well they coordinate and the movement of the eyes are tested to track objects.
Child’s side vision or the peripheral vision.
  • S-ORC (Sensitive Oxygen Ration controller) which ensures 25% O2 at all the time in fresh gas flow.
  • Nitrolock i.e., N2O is cut off automatically if O2 supply fails.
  • Oxygen failure alarm- Audible alarm for minimum 7 seconds and pressure relief valve.

If advanced tests are required eye drops are put to the child’s eyes to cause pupil dilation and widen, or dilate, so that the inside of the eye is visible to assess more accurately. Then ophthalmologist will use equipment to look at the interior of the eyes to see if there are any problems and to determine further course of action of treatment.


Electrophysiological tests of eye care involve tests done through Electroretinography (ERG) and visual evoked potential (VEP), which mostly evaluates the proximal visual pathway and rod-cone system. There are different waveforms in these tests which help to diagnose different eye conditions but also help the prognosis process of the treatment of the eyes. These tests are also useful in diagnosing the reason for unexplained vision loss. Detailed electrophysiological tests and their diagnosis and prognosis are given below.
